Sonwil Logistics

One of the core values of Sonwil is service. Being based in Buffalo, New York, Sonwil is proud to support the community organizations around us. Supporting the Buffalo area and building community ties are crucial to our identity and culture. From our connections with Feed More WNY, beach clean-ups, and more, Sonwil has established strong community roots as a cornerstone value in the city we call home. At Sonwil giving and volunteerism is encouraged all year long. The Sonwil Difference starts with our people and their actions. A unique part of the Sonwil Family is the Volunteer Committee which facilitates opportunities for team members to give back to their communities. Over the last year, the committee has organized numerous events to give back to the Buffalo community and beyond.

FeedMore WNY

The Sonwil team frequently volunteers for FeedMore WNY at their warehouse, as well as running various collection drives throughout the year. FeedMore WNY “continues the longstanding mission of offering dignity, hope and a brighter future by providing nutritious food, friendship and skills training to its Western New York neighbors in need”. The FeedMore organization functions as a food bank distribution center, as well as by partnering with hunger-relief agencies. They also offer a meal delivery program to alleviate hunger for people of all ages in Western New York.

Each quarter, the Sonwil team volunteers at the FeedMore WNY warehouse in the City of Buffalo. This initiative provides the warehouse with much-needed help with various projects they need to be done, such as packaging boxes of food together to give out to the community. With roots in warehousing, it just makes sense for Sonwil to volunteer with the warehousing section of FeedMore.

In the Spring, Sonwil participated in FeedMore’s Angel Card Program. Sonwil hosted a company happy hour where team members filled out cards that are delivered to homebound individuals that participate in the meal services program. These cards are created and delivered for special occasions such as birthdays, graduations, and holidays.

Throughout the year, various food and necessity drives were hosted in support of FeedMore WNY. One of the most needed goods for FeedMore was diapers. The Sonwil Volunteer Committee brought diapers and wipes to FeedMore WNY that were generously donated by Sonwil team members.

Summer Fun: Beaches, Boy Scouts and, BBQs

The Summer was a busy volunteer season for Sonwil. At Sonwil Headquarters, a Chicken BBQ Dinner was hosted to support a local Boy Scout Troop. Sonwil team members contributed by buying dinners and helping the day of the event. The Sonwil team was able to support Boy Scout Troop 1910 with the donation of time, labor (lots of pop cans and water bottles to be moved), and the consumption of plenty of chicken!

At the end of Summer, Sonwil team members hit a local beach on National Beach Cleanup Day to help clean it up! Since waterway trash is one of the most prevalent pollution problems, the Sonwil team leapt into action cleaning up trash and collecting data on trash found at the beach. The data collected on the trash collection was sent to the Ocean Conservancy in Washington DC for data analyzation to help the future of waterways!

P.U.N.T.

Our team members are extremely active in the local community. One organization that our team is passionate about is the P.U.N.T. Pediatric Cancer Collaborative. The P.U.N.T. Pediatric Cancer Collaborative is a nonprofit organization that provides families in Western New York facing pediatric cancer with support from diagnosis to recovery. The acronym stands for Perseverance, Understanding, Need and Teamwork. NFL Pro Bowl Punter Brian Moorman, and his wife Amber, founded this organization with the desire to make a difference for children in WNY who were fighting pediatric cancer.

One of our team members, Dom Grecco is passionate about giving back. From what started as a dare to wear a beer hat to sporting events at St. Bonaventure University, Dom Grecco gained recognition from all social media platforms because of his exceptional school spirit. This sparked an opportunity to be a Celebrity competitor in the U.S. National Buffalo Wing Eating Championship, against competitive eaters such as Joey Chestnut. As a company, Sonwil wanted to sponsor Dom in this competition and allow him to choose an organization that really meant something to him. He picked P.U.N.T. Pediatric Cancer Collaborative to donate to because of a close, personal connection with the organization.

Bottles, Cans, and Blankets

Throughout the Fall and Winter, Sonwil has facilitated the donation of bottles, cans, and blankets to benefit local animal shelters. Throughout warehouses and Sonwil Headquarters, bottles and cans have been collected to make a monetary donation to local animal shelters to support their animal outreach, adoption, and protection efforts. At Sonwil Headquarters, a blanket drive is run to donate new and gently used blankets to animal shelters to be used for a variety of reasons including providing warmth, and a sense of security and safety for the animals.

Giving Tree

As the year comes to a close, the generosity of the Sonwil team continues with its annual giving tree. Team members have the opportunity to decorate the Christmas tree at Sonwil with gloves, scarves, socks, and other winter items to be donated to a local Buffalo organization to distribute to the community.
